Abereiddy is a hamlet in the county of Pembrokeshire, South West Wales. It has a small beach of dark sand and pebbles from the pounded grey slate. This slate gives a brilliant deep blue colour to the waters in and around the little harbour known locally as the Blue Lagoon. This is a breached Quarry which many years ago was mined for the slate.
Abereiddy is very popular for coasteering and climbing, but it has strong currents which you need to be aware of and so it is best to enjoy coasteering as part of an organised group. Fishing and kayaking are also popular sports here. In 2012 Abereiddy was made world famous as the Red Bull Diving Cliff Diving World series took place here along with other destinations around the world!
You can follow the Pembrokeshire coast path and on the way be sure to give the National Trust owned Traeth Llywn beach a visit! This beautiful beach can only be accessed via the coast path down a steep flight of steps!
North of Abereiddy there are traces of the old narrow-gauge railway which once transported the quarried slate to Porthgain.
There is a ice cream van that sells refreshments located at Abereiddy. The nearest pub and restaurant is in Porthgain, 2.5 miles by car and 2 miles walking!
Nowadays Abereiddy has ruins of a small group of slate houses known as "The Street" near to the beach. These were houses for the quarry workers of the Blue lagoon and was only abandoned after a flood in the early 20th century.
