About Wool

Wool is a large village in the Purbeck district of Dorset. The village lies at a historic bridging point on the River Frome, halfway between Dorchester and Wareham. Nearby, to the east of the village, are the ruins of Bindon Abbey which was demolished in the Dissolution of the Monasteries of 1539, the stone being used to build castles in Portland, Lulworth and Sandsfoot.

Wool has it's own train station and is on the route of the Jurassic Coast bus (X53) linking Poole to Exeter.

Events in Wool

There is a small country market selling local produce held every Thursday at the D'Uberville Centre. The Dorset arts and Crafts exhibition in Wareham is an annual event.

The Wool parish Council hold numerous events for charity, they have quiz nights, entertainment, shows and coffee mornings and meetings. They have exercise classes, fairs and fetes. A very busy part of the community!

Of course there are many other events on in Wareham where there are larger theatres and live music venues.

 

Where is Wool?

Wool is situated on the A352 between Dorchester and Wareham. The village has a railway station on the Weymouth to Waterloo line.

The nearest airports to Wool are Bournemouth at 18 miles away and also Southampton at 50 miles away. There are ferry terminals at Poole and Weymouth.
