About Marnhull

Marnhull is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It sits in the Blackmore Vale above the River Stour 3 miles north of the small town of Sturminster Newton. The nearest large towns are Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury.  The coastal resort towns of Bounemouth and Poole are approximately 30 miles to the South.

 Historically according to Saxon Charters, Marnhull existed as a village in the 10th century although it has seen human occupation as early as the Iron Age. There was also a Roman Settlement at Ashley Wood.

Marnhull has three churches, Anglican, Roman Catholic and Methodist. Other amenities in the town include two primary schools, two public houses, a GP surgery, a village hall and a recreation ground, as well as other various small shops and services.

 

Events in Marnhull

The Village Hall at Marnhull holds lots of events for the local people. They have their own Website called the Marnhull Messenger which keeps everyone up to date with events in the village.

Of course a lot of the bigger events are held a bit further away in the larger towns such as the Sturminster Newton Carnival and Cheese Festival. There are also Theatres in Sturminster Newton, one being The Exchange which has lots of shows, Fairs and Fetes,  Clubs and Activities and other Community Events.
