Very Efficient Team!

"Very efficient team! Your driver found us on time, even though the house we were staying at was right at the end of a remote lane. The dispatcher had made a big effort to get all the location details. A pleasant chat on the history of the Lizard area made the journey to Redruth station an education. 5*s!"

About Okehampton

Okehampton is a town and civil parish in West Devon at the northern limit of Dartmoor, according to the 2001 census, Okehampton has an estimated population of 5,700

The earliest written record of a settlement here is from 980 AD as "Ocmundtune", meaning settlement by the Ockment.  An Ockment is a river which runs through the town.

Like many towns in the west of England, Okehampton's growth was mainly due to the wool trade.  Ruins of the Okehampton Castle, which was established by the Norman Sheriff of Devon, can still be seen to this day.  Presently, the castle is owned by English Heritage and is open to the public during the summer season. The town is also home to the Museum of Dartmoor Life, which has received notable visitors such as Prince Charles.

There is a large army training camp on Dartmoor which can be reached via Okehampton.  This is used by a variety of military units, including the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM), Lympstone, Devon, and many cadet training units.   Each year in early May the famous Ten Tors event is organised and run by the Army from Okehampton Camp.

Okehampton offers a wide variety of shops, from supermarkets to the small independent, individual shops that offer personal, friendly service. Browse the shops and relax over a coffee in original Victorian Arcade and Red Lion Yard.

Naturally Okehampton Taxis can collect you from your home or work address.  But if you are in town and want somewhere to meet, then perhaps by the clock tower, where there are some seats, or any of the public houses, restaurants, or business in the town.  If you are at college or the dentist just tell us where you are and we can collect you.
