Events in Hatherleigh
Hatherleigh hosts an arts festival in July, and a carnival in November featuring two flaming tar barrel runs. The Walruses meet on New Year's Day to jump into the River Lew to raise money for local good causes. An annual half-marathon called the Ruby Run takes place usually in June between Holsworthy and Hatherleigh, starting from each town in alternate years. Hatherleigh Market has weekly sales of sheep, cattle, poultry. There is also a country market called The Ruby Market held at intervals throughout the year.

Hatherleigh is situated on the A386 on the River Lew some 15 miles (24 km) south east of Bideford and 24 miles (39 km) north west of Exeter. A few approximate straight line distances that may be of interest are: Smeaton's Tower in Plymouth is 31 miles (50 km) to the south, whilst Bristol lies 78 miles (125 km) to the north east. Central London is 177 miles (285 km) to the east north east.
