About Exeter

Exeter is an historic city and the county town of Devon.  It is a major shopping and tourist centre as well as a University City.  Exeter is also home to Exeter Chiefs,  rugby team and Exeter City Football Club.  Exeter also has a fine racecourse on its doorstep. According to the 2011 Census its population is 117,773.  A busy and vibrant city that is well served by rail, road and air links and draws people from all over the south west for leisure, commercial and cultural reasons.   Historically this city was the most south-westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain.    The discovery of coins dating from the Hellenistic period in the city indicates the existence of a settlement trading with the Mediterranean region as early as 250 BC.  Exeter Cathedral was founded in the early 12th century, and became Anglican at the time of the 16th century Reformation.

The city's transport hubs include Exeter St David's railway station, Exeter Central railway station, the M5 motorway and Exeter International Airport connecting the city both nationally and internationally.
