Liskeard (Cornish: Lyskerrys) is an ancient stannary and market town and civil parish of Cornwall. Liskeard is one of the few towns in Cornwall still to have a weekly livestock market. Market day is Tuesday. Local business largely comprises small independent establishments, many specialising in unique local products. Some shops retain original Victorian shop fronts and interiors. One of the most widely recognised product coming from Liskeard is the hand-made Cornish Blue Cheese by the Cornish Cheese Company. In the 2001 Census Liskeard had a population of 8,656.
Events in Liskeard
One of the events in Liskeard is a pantomime in the last week of January with 2 nights free entry for the OAPs, and there is a carnival every June. September/October is St Matthew's Fair and every December the town comes together for the Christmas Light switch on which includes street entertainment and fun activities throughout the day and a lantern parade around the streets before the lights are switched on. Where is Liskeard?
The town of Liskeard lies on the B3254 road and is situated approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Plymouth, 14 miles (23 km) west of the River Tamar, the border with Devon, and 12 miles (20 km) east of Bodmin. The town is at the head of the Looe valley and the town of Looe itself lies 7 miles (11 km) south of Liskeard.
