Not surprisingly, Fowey is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, having a unique charm which holds a special fascination for visitors of all ages. There is a wealth of quaint cottages, narrow steep winding streets, affording glimpses of the shimmering river below. Fowey is not only a beautiful town with a fabulous history but also a thriving commercial seaport. The town's natural harbour is a haven for yachtsmen and attracts a multitude of sailing dinghies, yachts, schooners and motor launchers.
Daphney du Maurier is one of the famous daughters of Fowey. An author and playwright, her works include 'Rebecca', 'Jamaica Inn' and numerous short stories including 'The Birds and Don't Look Now'. All these were turned into films.
